Let’s have ice cream together :)
next week at our sundae collab pop-up!
This week we’re featuring our Carroll Gardens Neighborhood Guide, highlighting where you can grab an ice cream with us (for free!) next week, sharing about gallery shows, creative workshops & food pop-ups, and introducing you to our cool new friend: Ashley Overbeek.
Saison Bakery

One of our favorite bakers in Brooklyn finally has a permanent home! Saison Bakery is (soft) opening this weekend in Bed Stuy, specializing in seasonal cakes and classic bakes. From fruit and flower filled layer cakes to nostalgic bakery favorites, everything will be served in a beautiful space inspired by founder Sammy’s home: warm, welcoming, and a little romantic. Stop by 434 Hancock St tomorrow & Sunday from 8:30a until sold out for opening weekend, then Thursdays - Sundays 8:30a-1:30p during regular hours!
Frø
Speaking of bakeries, Red Hook has a new Danish outpost on weekends called Frø. Located at 185 Van Dyke St near Steve’s Key Lime, the bakehouse serves up soft, nutty Danish rye bread, cardamom buns, and other treats in a chic and modern space, full of colorful paintings. Keep an eye on their instagram page each weekend for hours!
Red Hook Books
Another new arrival to the neighborhood, Red Hook Books is a new bookstore and community art space run by husband and wife team, Tanya and Patrick. The store offers new and used books across genres, as well as homemade sketchbooks by Tanya. In addition to their physical offerings, the shop is working on rolling out a series of workshops including bookmaking, cultural criticism, and concrete poetry. Open Wednesdays - Sundays from 10a-6p at 123 Coffey Street.
The subject line of this newsletter reads, “let’s eat ice cream together,” and we mean it! Next Tuesday, July 1th, we’ll be popping up in Fort Greene for a collaborative sundae with Alec’s Ice Cream and Candor Candy! Featuring a Matcha Chocolate Chip base topped with strawberry drizzle, dipped pretzels, and strawberry gummies, this sundae is our ideal way to cool off on a hot Brooklyn day.
To get in on the fun, head to Candor at 664 Fulton St from 6-8p on July 14th, where we’ll be there to enjoy a scoop with you.
OH and best of all? coolstuff.nyc subscribers get theirs FREE! Just screenshot the badge below and show it off at the event.
See you there, friends.
A South Brooklyn bastion of cool, Carroll Gardens brings together three things that we think make up a great neighborhood: lots of independent businesses, palpable history, and a thriving community. As you walk through the lush, brownstone-lined streets, you can’t miss the longstanding Italian influence in the neighborhood from Catholic statues to bocce courts in the local park.
The Greenpoint outpost of Brooklyn Brewers, Threes, just launched a super exciting Summer Guist Series. A rotating cast of beloved NYC bars and restaurants will be brought directly to the bar, taking over the space completely including decor, music, and menu. The walk-in-only pop up continues with The Irish Exit (July 13), Nom Wah (July 20), Veselka (August 3), Chi Ba Bakery (August 10), Shifka (August 17), and Peter Luger (August 24). Don’t miss the chance to catch these classics away from their home turf!
Meet Ashley Overbeek, founder of plant-based caviar brand, Pearle Caviar. She’s spent her career at the intersection of luxury, culture, and commerce, consulting for the world’s leading luxury brands at McKinsey, working at LVMH, and serving as a director at Gagosian Gallery. But it was her Stanford degrees in Sustainable Food and Agriculture, and a lifelong passion for exceptional food, that led her to the question Pearle was built to answer: why hasn’t anyone reinvented caviar?
