This week we’re sharing our Bed Stuy Neighborhood Guide, featuring four cool new restaurants and highlighting our monthly favorite things column.
L'Americana

New Yorkers of a certain vintage will, like us, remember the wonderful East Village speakeasy within a sushi joint, Angel’s Share. After the original location closed following the pandemic, star bartenders went on to open their own fantastic watering holes like Takuma Watanabe did at Martiny’s and now L’Americana. The new spot in Gramercy Park highlights Watanabe’s love of Italian food and of course, features an amazing drinks menu by Nicolò Amadori. PS - get the spaghetti!
Sofreh Cafe
Brooklyn’s favorite spot for Persian cuisine, Sofreh, is at it again with a new concept: Sofreh Cafe. The new casual-version of the beloved spot (only a block away) is serving up dishes like Rose Cream Donuts and other sweet treats. Head over now to try the recently opened spot at 216 Flatbush ave in Prospect Heights.
7th Street Burger Park Slope
The delicious 7th Street Burger continues to expand its footprint from the original East Village counter, most recently with a spot on Park Slope’s 5th Avenue. In a time where New York is continually more expensive than it already has been, we appreciate a very good burger that clocks in at just under $8. Stop by the new location or at one of their others – probably within arm's length of where you’re standing now.
Penny
The talented folks behind East Village hotspot Claud have a new concept…and it’s just upstairs. Penny is a sorta casual sorta celebratory seafood restaurant and features a selection of raw and cooked fare. As expected, the vibe is warm, modern, and fun with a top-tier wine list. Don’t worry about Resys, the team is trying to keep this weekdays-only restaurant reserved for mostly walk-ins. Monday–Friday from 5-10p at90 E. 10th St.

Bed Stuy is one of Brooklyn’s biggest neighborhoods – from the brownstone-lined ways of Willoughby Street to the pockets of sunshine in Herbert Von King Park. We tapped Bed Stuy local and one of our favorite artists, Sarah Nsikak of La Réunion to put together a list of her favorite spots in the place she calls home.
Brooklyn-based & beloved fine jewelry brand, Catbird, just launched a super fun collaboration with the one-and-only Jenny Slate. This collection is tied to motherhood and childhood memories and true to Catbird form, the collection is crafted with recycled 14k gold and includes delicate chains, tiny charms, and engraved pendants. There’s a braided chain inspired by the memory of learning to braid, a lost button charm that might’ve been found in your mom’s antique drawer, a heart pendant inspired by Victoria-era love tokens, and a very Jenny-inspired shell bell. Take a look and let us know what you snag?
