This week we’re featuring crafting & writing & wine workshops, highlighting the coolest gallery shows, sharing food & drink pop-ups and collabs, and introducing you to our cool new friend: Ham El-Waylly.

Mariscos el Submarino Park Slope

The IYKYK Mexican Seafood favorite, Mariscos el Submarino, has opened their newest location along Park Slope’s 7th Avenue. The new location features the same lauded menu of aguachiles, tostadas, and tacos. Don’t miss the El Gobernador taco, a cheesy, quesadilla-adjacent affair stuffed full of shrimp cooked in butter. Open everyday from noon to 10p.

Bonhams Headquarters

It’s not everyday that one of the oldest auction houses in the world, Bonhams, opens their doors to the public for a performance on a piano Elton John used in recording his album Caribou. This Friday (4-7p) and Saturday (12-3p) there will be special free performances on the beautiful 1910 Steinway as part of the programming to celebrate Bonhams’ new New York home at 111 W. 57th Street. No reservation is required and the performance will be open to the public! Also on view this weekend will be works by Brancusi, Francis Bacon, and Andy Warhol - all from upcoming auctions.

Brooklyn-based frozen yogurt maker Sour Cherries & Celebrity baker Gigi’s Little Kitchen are coming together for a fundraiser in support of the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota Immigrant Rapid Response Fund. What if we told you that you could make an impact in Minnesota and throw the sweetest party of the year? The dessert duo are raffling off a dream party package: a custom cake and five pints of fro-yo (flavors and toppings of your choice!), perfect for up to 25 guests.

This Tuesday, New York’s best and only humor magazine, The Bowery Review, is celebrating their newest issue the best way they know how: with a party! All happening at Night Club 101 in Alphabet City, you’ll be able to snag a copy of the latest issue, listen to live readings of selected pieces from the new issue, and join writers in drinking, their favorite activity. RSVP here!

Our friend & contributor, Elissa Suh of MOVIEPUDDING is hosting her first ever food & film event...and you should know about it! MOVIEPUDDING is partnering with Dumbo’s Hudson Wilder and Hey Wanna Hang for a five-course dinner and screening of In the Mood for Love. The meal will be cooked in-house, as a preview of Hudson Wilder’s forthcoming restaurant concept, Jazz Canteen, launching later this year (!!) It’s all happening on Thursday, February 19 with the perfect way to celebrate lunar new year and a belated v-day.

If you missed it in last week’s edition, we shared a fun v-day gift guide for you last minute shoppers! Our friends over at Sézane, with shops in Nolita and Williamsburg, have released their latest lookbook: “The Amour Edit.” Styled just for the day of ~love~, the collection is full of the requisite hearts & shades of red. Shop our selects here (for yourself or for your <3)

Much like learning through food, experiencing a favorite past time is a great way to get a better understanding of a culture…and that’s exactly what Leeland Eating and Drinking House is offering with their Mahjong Beginner Lesson and Dim Sum next Saturday! As part of the larger Lunar Year menu takeover (which is offered from the 16th through the 22nd) this $50 lunch-hour ticket includes the group Mahjong lesson as well as dim sum favorites like sesame pancakes, baked pork buns, and more with drinks available for purchase. And don’t worry if you can’t make it, the specials during LNY will be spectacular!

Meet Ham, the Head Chef and Culinary Partner at Strange Delight, the seafood restaurant, oyster counter and cocktail bar celebrating New Orleans culture in Fort Greene! He’s got a stacked resume with stints cooking at WD-50 and Corton, working as Culinary Director at Empellón, opening Hail Mary with his wife and business partner Sohla El-Waylly...and now on to head chef at Strange Delight. We do not say this lightly: Strange Delight is one of our favorite restaurants in all of BK...so we’re super excited to have Ham on as a cool friend this week to talk about all things Mardi Gras, menu items & what’s new for his hot spot restaurant.
